After a seemingly endless stream of rain daze, the mini mix for this week was all about creating a soundtrack mix to suit our grey, rain-spattered existence! Shimmering, spattered beats; desaturated washes of sound and cosy references were woven for this purpose.
Also, after seeing Shadow at the Horden Pavillion the night before, a lil’ tribute was played after a gushing, (but apt), reflection on the show! Finally, we finished off with part one of Osymyso’s concept EP: ‘Intro-Introspection’. In the fellow’s own words:
‘I sat in a central London nightclub while non-stop pop music boomed in all directions and I couldn’t help noticing the ever changing population of the dancefloor, dictated by bursts of nostalgia and the irresistible pull of that timeless hook line. A cycle of activity became apparent to me as one song drew to its close and a wave of expectation filled the room in anticipation of the next song for you to either love or hate. As the intro was dropped people made one of two decisions: they either rushed to the dancefloor or raced for the seats.
It was after half an hour of this that an idea popped into my head; how would people respond to nothing but intros? What would be the effects on the dancefloor? How much of an intro do you need before people know the song it belongs to?
The next few days were spent gathering, compiling, editing and questioning until a final collection of 101 intros were chosen for the final mix which was to become ‘Intro-Introspection’ – 101 intros from 101 unique groups or solo artists from pop songs spanning five decades, crammed into twelve minutes and nine seconds.’

For the first episode of ‘Patent Pending’, the concept of mini mixtapes was introduced, with the soundtrack to bagging-it-up in a buggy on the moon. Each week, I’ll take on the challenge to create a mix for a mood, sensation or soundtrack for a particular event. Bring the challenges on!
So what would you blast on your system if you were on the moon, cruising around in a moon buggy? What would the soundtrack be like as you bounced around with minimal gravity, through a surreal, spacey landscape?
Cute and bouncy, with hints of Star Wars, video games and plenty of strange, alien sounding samples, this is my soundtrack to bagging it up in a moon buggy – bam!
Moon Buggy Mix:
1. Mouse On Mars: Spaceship
2. Outputmessage: Bernard’s Song
3. Stop Disco Mafia: Absent
4. Two Lone Swordsmen: Sick When We Kiss (Inst.)
5. (a)pendics Shuffle: Boobies Bounce
