Anyway, that’s from my Al, who actually believes in me and is awesome enough to keep me laying hope eggs.

New Stuff for You
Friday June 06th 2008, 1:10 pm

Good things come to those that don’t piss me off! (or are at least a bit patient!) There are two new mixes up:

DJ Krush Mix is from supporting him in Canberra in May this year and has the little anecdote that made me ridiculously happy.

Raiden Mix is from supporting him, also in Canberra in May this year and was a really fun and bass ladden set.

Also, check out Headroom, (below), a new monthly night that you’ll no doubt love if you like this website.

HEADROOM – Launch!!! | Harmonic 313 | Some Freak | Bec Paton | Jonny Faith | Monk Fly
Friday June 06th 2008, 1:08 pm

Join us for a night of mayhem as we launch our new underground baby (that happens to NOT be a troll), Headroom! Jonny Faith, Bec Paton and Monk Fly got together and nutted out how to throw the party of their wet dreams and this is the result – wild, wonderful, wicked beats from some of our favorite beat-bruisers, an intimate and peculiar venue in which to play, snipers and animal sex, and of course, a gathering of the dopest mofos around, (stop reading if you are not said “dope mofo”).

Harmonic 313 (Warp, Global Communication, Jedi Knights, Troubleman,) is also known around here as mystical Mark Pritchard who’s DJ sets are always slicker than an oil spill, and for us he has promised a set of his ridiculously fat, minimal, glitchy hip hop sounds.

Some Freak
(Bodega, Red Bull Music Academy), is shortly leaving the country and so being the desperate junkies that we are, needed a hit before the withdrawal sets in. His productions are wild and his DJ sets woolly – shit’s gonna be mammoth!

Monk Fly’s a total scallywag which is why his wicked prodcuction and music selection will charm the pants off you, (if his gentlemanly moustache doesn’t first).

Jonny Faith is an absolute weapon with bombs to drop and scratches that have gotten him a couple of killer Solid Steel mixes to sit with the rest of his arsenal.

Bec Paton is a frequanaught, just returned from getting high-fived by DJ Krush and glowing like the tail-end of space junk on re-entry, (read ‘happy that this happened’, nothing more!)

You comin’? Cheap and oh so very cheerful ($5 before 11pm and $10 afterwards on the door).

DJ Krush Support set (Canberra)
Thursday May 22nd 2008, 11:00 am

I play a bit of electronica tinged hip hop and speak a bit of Japanese so it was pretty appropriate to get to support my hero, DJ Krush! At my wedding in February, we walked down the aisle to Dj Krush’s “Final Home” (the piano mix) too so it made it pretty poetic, sorta, too.

Poor Krush was a bit stunned because his support rocked up, was a girl, spoke Japanese and told him enthusiastically about getting hitched to one of his songs, (in Japanese). He was bewildered but stoked. When one of the turntables buggered out, he was cool enough to let me use one of his for the remainder of the set too. After my set, he said my tunes were great, high-fived me and clapped me in front of the crowd. I still feel a little glowy…

He then pulled out an awesome set and was such a generous performer and truly the master. Thanks to Landspeed for making a dream come true. Now I just need to support Shadow and Tipper and my list is done!

From the lovely review from BMA:

“We arrived to find the lush sounds of ex-Canberran Bec Paton doing a warm-up set that, had it been louder, and she not a support DJ, would have been more than enough entertainment for one night. Her sublime mixing of records that would pose problems to the most talented of selectors formed a beat-laden, diverse, bass-y and beautiful introduction to the night – which was only slowed by quickly rectified turntable problems – and seemed like a tribute to all Krush is about: gorgeous sounds juxtaposed by drums-of-death.”

Raiden Support Set (Canberra)
Saturday May 17th 2008, 11:30 pm

The bass manics from True Jungle Souljahs invited me back to Canberra to support Raiden, all the way from the UK and famous for his techno infused drum & bass. While this is not a style I really play, I managed to pull out a killer set of dubstep, grime, jungle and drum and bass. It was heaps of fun with MC Harlequin on the mic and a room full of up-for-it peeps.

I got a pretty awesome review from InTheMix for it too: Confession #3: I enjoyed the next act more than the headliner. Maybe it was due to my complete lack of exposure to the mega-ultra-cool genre of dubstep before this moment, but Bec Paton’s set absolutely blew me away. Glitchy, bassy and just downright cool, I couldn’t help but get my ‘groove awn’ (sorry dancefloor) and was fixated for an hour in some kind of dubby, wacked-out hypnotic trance. All hail dubstep, the next genre to make you feel like the coolest mo-fo on the planet!”

2SER Radiothon – It’s time to put out!
Sunday October 14th 2007, 11:33 pm

It is that time of year again, where all of us at 2ser celebrate our achievements for the year and call apon our listeners and the community to give a little somethin’ to keep us in the radio business! 2ser is an integral part of Australia’s media landscape. It is a grass roots, locally focussed, volunteer driven community station, is truly independent and not for profit. As 2ser receives no government funding, it relies on financial contributions from listeners and members of the community to continue to provide cutting edge radio.

For my show, Patent Pending, which is on at midday today, I try and find the most interesting music possible and fascinating artists to talk to with no agenda other than to put on the dopest radio show I can! For the price of two CDs, you can subscribe to 2ser for the year and know that you’re contributing to a great scene – and think of all the music you get for that too!

For those of you who are artists, if you become an artist supporter there are heaps of benefits including a week-long on-air spotlight, discounts on campaigns, and a spot on our designated artist webpage. It’s a pretty fine radio station to be affiliated with and if you have enjoyed having support from me over the year, maybe this is a cool way to give a little back and ensure your a part of the radness!

Sooo… Please don’t sit on this – I would appreciate your support. Call up during my show on Monday 12noon to 1:30pm on 9514 9500 or visit online.

There’s heaps of great prizes and supporter benefits too but I know you’ll do it out if the goodness of your heart – your halo is choking you!

Thanks a bijillion!!!
